Restraints Control Module (RCM): Removal

WARNING: The following procedure prescribes critical repair steps required for correct restraint system operation during a crash. Follow all notes and steps carefully. Failure to follow step instructions may result in incorrect operation of the restraint system and increases the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

  1. 1.

    NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
    NOTE: The PMI process must begin with the current RCM installed. If the current RCM does not respond to the diagnostic scan tool, the tool may prompt for As-Built Data as part of the repair.

    Using a diagnostic scan tool, begin the PMI process for the RCM following the on-screen instructions.

    Depower the SRS. Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering .

  1. 3.

    If equipped. Remove the floor console. Refer to: Floor Console - Vehicles With: Single Passenger Seat .

  1. 4.

    Vehicles not equipped with a floor console. Remove the parking brake control. Refer to: Parking Brake Control .

  1. 5.

      Detach 1 wire harness and 3 electrical connector pin type retainers.

    1. 2.

      Remove the console bracket bolts.

    1. 3.

      NOTE: The RCM shield is held to the RCM with adhesive tape.

      Remove the RCM shield and bracket.

  1. 6.

    1. 1.

      Release the 2 RCM electrical connectors.

    1. 2.

      Disconnect the 2 RCM electrical connectors.

    1. 3.

      Remove the 3 bolts and the RCM.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
