Pedestrian Protection System - Overview: Overview

The pedestrian protection system minimizes the risk of injury to pedestrians who come in contact with a vehicle in motion.

The pedestrian protection system is controlled by the RCM, which continually receives and monitors inputs from the pedestrian protection impact sensors, in addition to data from other modules. If the RCM detects a pedestrian impact based on the inputs received and determines that a deployment is necessary, the RCM applies voltage and current to deploy the appropriate pedestrian protection system component(s).

PMI is required any time a new RCM is installed.
