Powertrain Control Module (PCM): Installation

  1. Install the PCM and the bolts.

    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

  2. Connect the PCM electrical connectors.

  3. Connect the transmission control module and the engine harnesses.

  4. Install the LH headlight. Refer to: Headlamp Assembly .
  5. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Position the hose aside, remove the oil filler cap and remove the engine appearance cover. Install the oil filler cap.

  6. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
    NOTE: The PCM is programmed with an IQA code for each fuel injector. If a new PCM is installed record the fuel injector IQA code located on top of the fuel injector.

    • Ford part number (example).

    • Fuel injector IQA code.

  7. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Remove the oil filler cap. Install the engine appearance cover, position the hose back and install the oil filler cap.

  8. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
    NOTE: The PCM must be programmed with the proper fuel injector IQA codes.

    • Using the scan tool, follow the on-screen instructions and program the PCM with the appropriate fuel injector IQA code for any fuel injector that was replaced.

  9. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
    NOTE: Vehicles without PATS may still require a parameter reset.

    Carry out the Parameter Reset procedure. Refer to: Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset .

  10. NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

    Using the scan tool, perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure, following the on-screen instructions.
