Transmission Control Module (TCM): Removal
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

NOTE: TCM Programming is NOT necessary if the TCM is being re-used.
Download the module information to the diagnostic tool using the Programmable Modules Installation routine.
- Remove the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Remove the ground strap bolt.multimedia:A supplement to the article is available.
- Remove the wiring routing bracket bolt.

NOTE: Make sure that the terminals or pins/sockets of the transmission control module (TCM) and the TCM electrical connector are not bent or damaged.
Disconnect the TCM connectors, remove the wiring harness retainers and position aside the wiring harness.

NOTE: The retainer is not completely removed from the bracket.
Push up on the front of the wiring routing bracket to partly release the retainer.
- Remove the TCM bolts.
- Remove the TCM.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of corrosion and foreign material.
Inspect the TCM mating surface for corrosion and debris.
