Pinpoint Test B : Paddle Shift Does Not Operate Correctly

  1. Refer to Wiring Diagrams for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

Each paddle shift switch is a momentary contact switch integral to the steering wheel. When the selector lever is placed in the sport shift position, the upshift/downshift feature becomes activated and allows the operator to upshift or downshift without removing their hands from the steering wheel.

    Possible Sources

    • Circuit open or shorted
    • Paddle shift switches
    • Clockspring
    • SCCM
    • PCM

  2. B1 VERIFY GEAR POSITION

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, access the PCM and monitor PID TR.

    • Move the selector lever to all gear positions while monitoring PID TR.

Does PID TR agree with all selector lever positions?

    Yes  GO to  B2
No  RESOLVE any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the TR sensor. REFER to: DTC Chart and Pinpoint Tests - 2.3L EcoBoost (231kW/314PS) . REFER to: DTC Chart and Pinpoint Tests - 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 (308kW/418PS) . If no TR sensor diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are present, RESOLVE the Selector lever linkage is out of correct gear relationship concern. REFER to Symptom Chart
  3. B2 CHECK THE UPSHIFT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
