Component Description
Cruise Control Indicator
The cruise control indicator, located in the IPC, illuminates to indicate the cruise control system is on.
Steering Wheel Switch Function
Cruise control switch inputs are received by the SCCM and sent to the PCM through the GWM on the FD-CAN.
Pressing and releasing the on (speedometer icon) switch turns the cruise control system on. Pressing SET+ or SET- on the set switch while the vehicle is traveling at the desired speed activates the cruise control system.
Pressing up or down on the set switch while in the active mode increases or decreases the maintained vehicle speed in small increments. If the respective switch is pressed and held, the vehicle speed continues to accelerate or decelerate until the switch is released.
Pressing and releasing the off (speedometer icon) switch or turning the ignition to the off position, turns the cruise control system off. While the cruise control system is active, applying the brake, clutch (if equipped) or pressing the cancel (X) switch puts the cruise control system into standby mode. Pressing the resume (RES) switch when the cruise control system is in standby mode causes the vehicle to accelerate to the last set speed. Resume does not function if the off switch is pressed, the ignition is cycled off or if the current vehicle speed is below the minimum operational speed.
Steering Wheel Switches
The cruise control steering wheel mounted switches are momentary contact switches that toggle up and down for the switch state. The switches are an input to the SCCM.
BPP Switch
Vehicles equipped with the 2.3L engine, contains a BPP switch. When the brake pedal is applied, an electrical signal from the stoplamp circuit to the PCM deactivates the system. Under increased brake pedal effort, the cruise control deactivator switch opens and removes the ground signal from the PCM input circuit releasing the throttle and immediately deactivating the system.
Clutch Master Cylinder Sensor
The clutch master cylinder push rod sensor is used on vehicles equipped with a manual transmission. When the clutch pedal is applied, the clutch master cylinder sensor sends an electrical signal to the PCM to deactivate the cruise control system.
The CPP top of travel switch located on the clutch pedal provides a ground input to the BCM when the clutch pedal is applied. This pull down input is used as a start engine input when applied and as a crank in gear (CIG) input when released.
EBB Module
Vehicles equipped with the 2.7L engine, contains an EBB unit along with the ABS module. The EBB unit is serviced as a single assembly and should NOT be disassembled. When the brake pedal is applied, a plunger activates an internal switch which sends an electrical signal on the stoplamp circuit to the PCM to deactivate cruise control.
