Pinpoint Test E: U2002:12, U2002:14 Or U2002:9E

  1. Refer to TURN SIGNAL/STOP/HAZARD LAMPS for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    REFER to: Switch Input Module A (SIMA) 

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    SIMA U2002:12 Switch: Circuit Short To Battery A continuous monitoring DTC that sets in the SIMA when the switches circuits are shorted to voltage internally.
    SIMA U2002:14 Switch: Circuit Short To Ground Or Open A continuous monitoring DTC that sets in the SIMA when the switches are shorted to ground or open internally.
    SIMA U2002:9E Switch: Stuck On A continuous monitoring DTC that sets in the SIMA when the switch is stuck on for more than 120 seconds.

    Possible Sources 

    • SIMA switch
    • SIMA

  2. E1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the AWD self-test.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the CHCM self-test.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the GWM self-test.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the SIMA self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  If AWD module DTCs were retrieved, DIAGNOSE those DTCs first. REFER to the appropriate DTC Index. If CHCM DTCs were retrieved, DIAGNOSE those DTCs first. REFER to the appropriate DTC Index. If GWM DTCs were retrieved, DIAGNOSE those DTCs first. REFER to the appropriate DTC Index. If BCM DTC B1D35:11 is retrieved, REFER to: Turn Signal and Hazard Lamps For all others, DIAGNOSE those DTCs first. REFER to the appropriate DTC Index. If CHCM DTCs were retrieved, DIAGNOSE those DTCs first. REFER to the appropriate DTC Index. If SIMA DTCs U2002:12, U2002:14 or U2002:9E were retrieved, GO to  E2
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent voltage condition.
  3. E2 CHECK THE SIMA (SWITCH INPUT MODULE A) SWITCH PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool,

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_1PID,

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_IND_1PID

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_2PID,

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_IND_2PID,

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_3PID,

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_IND_3PID,

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_4PID,

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_IND_4PIDand

      Access the SIMA and monitor the PUSH_BTN_5PID

    • Using the table, press each SIMA switch icon while monitoring the switch PID.
      SIMA Switch PID Value
      Front E-Locker (pressed/released) On/Off
      Rear E-Locker (pressed/released) On/Off
      Sway Bar Disconnect (pressed/released) On/Off
      Off Road Turn Assist (pressed/released) On/Off
      Roll Stability Control (pressed/released) On/Off

    Does the SIMA switch and indicator PID value agree with the switch position? 

    Yes  GO to  E3
    No  INSTALL a new SIMA. REFER to: Switch Input Module A (SIMA) 
  4. E3 CHECK FOR CORRECT SIMA (SWITCH INPUT MODULE A) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all SIMA connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the SIMA connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new SIMA. REFER to: Switch Input Module A (SIMA) 
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
