Power Transfer Unit

- Remove the front subframe. Refer to: Front Subframe
- Remove the engine appearance cover.
- Remove the RH air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH
- Remove the RHCAC intake pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe
- Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.
- Disconnect the catalyst monitor electrical connector.
- Remove and discard the driveshaft to PTU bolts and retaining straps.
- Separate the driveshaft from the PTU flange.

NOTE: Make sure that the component aligns with the installation mark.
Index-mark the driveshaft and PTU flange.

NOTE: Do not remove driveshaft from the PTU flange by pulling on the driveshaft tube. Damage to the CV-joint can result.
Using general equipment, separate the driveshaft from the PTU flange. Use the General Equipment: Punch Use the General Equipment: Copper Hammer
- Remove the driveshaft from the PTU flange.

- Remove the RH catalytic converter to transmission bracket bolts.
- Remove the RH catalytic converter bracket through bolt and bracket.
- Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter nuts. Remove the RH catalytic converter.
- Remove and discard the converter gasket.
- Remove and discard the catalytic converter to turbo studs. Clean and inspect the gasket surface.
- Remove the PTU heat shield bolts and PTU heat shield.
- Disconnect the auxillary pump connector and retainers.
- Disconnect the PTU motor connectors.
- If equipped, disconnect the PTU temperature sensor and retainers.
- Clamp the hoses. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp(s)

NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.
Release the hose clamps and position aside the PTU cooling system hoses.
- Remove the pump mounting nuts and position aside coolant pump along with hoses.
- Separate the RH halfshaft from the intermediate shaft.
- Remove and discard the circlip and O-Ring seal from the intermediate shaft.
- Remove the intermediate shaft. Refer to: Intermediate Shaft
- Disconnect and position aside the PTU vent hose.
- Remove the vent hose retainer.
- Remove the PTU support bracket bolts and the PTU support bracket.
- Remove the PTU bolts and the PTU.
- Remove and discard the PTU to transmission compression seal.

NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.
If equipped, remove the PTU temperature sensor harness bracket.
