- Ignition ON.
- Wait at least 1 minute.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the DTC s from the vehicle. NOTE: DTC s may bedisplayed from previous diagnostic actions.
Does the SASM pass the network test?
Yes No Diagnose all SASM DTCs. REFER to the SASM DTC Chart. If there are no DTCs in the SASM, Go to J2. REFER to CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (CAN) MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . - J2: CHECK THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the ABS self-test.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the ABS module Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Carry out the ABS self-test.
Are any of the DTCS listed in the Fault Setting Conditions Table retrieved again?
Yes No Go to J3. The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition. - J3: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) IN THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE
- Review the recorded DTCs from the ABS module self-test.
Is DTC U3003:16 or U3003:17 present?
Yes No For DTC U3003:16, GO to PINPOINT TEST A.
For DTC U3003:17, GO to PINPOINT TEST F.Go to J4 - J4: RETRIEVE ALL DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) FROM THE SCCM (STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE)
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the SCCM self-test.
- RECORD all DTC s from the SCCM self-test.
Are any DTCs present in the SCCM?
Yes No DIAGNOSE the SCCM DTCs. REFER to Steering Wheel and Column Electrical Components . Go to J5 - J5: RETRIEVE ALL DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) FROM THE SASM (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MODULE)
- Carry out the SASM self-test.
- RECORD all DTCs from the SASM self-test.
Are any DTCs present in the SASM?
Yes No DIAGNOSE the SASM DTCs. REFER to the SASM DTC Chart in this article. Go to J6. - J6: CHECK FOR OTHER CAUSES OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK CONCERN NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration can be incorrectly set during the PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.
- Operate the system and determine if the observable symptom is still present.
Is the observable symptom still present?
Yes No Go to J7. The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been due to incorrect parts replacement procedures or incorrect module configuration. - J7: CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) IN OTHER MODULES
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the DTCs from the vehicle.NOTE: DTCs may be displayed from previous diagnostic actions.
Is DTC U0126:xx or U0428:xx set in 1 or more modules in addition to the ABS module?
Yes No Go to J8. Go to J9. - J8: VERIFY SASM (STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MODULE) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect SASM connector C2414A .
- Using a good light source, inspect all disconnected electrical connectors for the following:
- corrosion - install new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals or pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- spread terminals - install new terminals as necessary
- Connect SASM connector, C2414A . Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the observable symptoms is still present..
Is the concern still present?
Yes No CHECK OASIS for any service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA.
If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions.
If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new SASM - clockspring assembly. REFER to DRIVER AIRBAG - VEHICLES WITH: ADAPTIVE STEERING , CLOCKSPRING . The SASM is part of the clockspring and the 2 components are serviced as an assembly. The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - J9: CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- ABS Module connector disconnected. C135 .
