ISSUE

Some 2020-2023 Explorer vehicles equipped with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine, 2022-2023 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine, and 2023-2024 Expedition/Navigator vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P25B3, P25B4, P25B5, P25B6, P2ABA, P2ABB, P2ABC, P2AB7, P2AB8, and/or P2AB9. This may be due to the software in the powertrain control module (PCM). To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.

ACTION

Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:

One of the following vehicles:
- 2020-2023 Explorer equipped with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine
- 2022-2023 F-150 equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine
- 2023-2024 Expedition/Navigator
Exhibits an illuminated MIL and/or powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator with DTCs P25B3, P25B4, P25B5, P25B6, P2ABA, P2ABB, P2ABC, P2AB7, P2AB8, and/or P2AB9 stored in the PCM

Warranty Status: Eligible under provisions of New Vehicle Limited Warranty (NVLW)/Emissions Warranty/Service Part Warranty (SPW)/Special Service Part (SSP)/Extended Service Plan (ESP) coverage. Limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB. NVLW/Emissions Warranty/SPW/SSP/ESP coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part coverage tool.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Reprogram the PCM using the latest software level of the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS).
NOTE: Advise the customer that this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy which allows the vehicle's computer to learn the transmission's unique parameters and improve shift quality. When the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a relearning process. This relearning process may result in firmer than normal upshifts and downshifts for several days.
