Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor

The CMP sensor is a Hall effect sensor that detects the position of the camshaft. The CMP sensor identifies when piston number 1 is on its compression stroke. The PCM calculates the CMP signal and the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor signal to determine the camshaft to crankshaft position for correct fuel injection timing during the compression stroke. The CMP sensor is mounted at the front of the engine block, above the crankshaft pulley.
