Minimum Fuel Mass Adaption
Minimum Fuel Mass Adaption is an algorithm used to detect deviations in individual fuel injector performance from nominal. In a deceleration fuel shut off condition, fuel rail pressure is set to a calibrated pressure and small injections are made from a single fuel injector. The measured acceleration in crankshaft speed is compared to the expected acceleration for the target fuel quantity. From this information, a correction to fuel injection quantity for the specific injector is determined. This information is used to adjust all pilot injections on that fuel injector for correct fuel delivery. If the absolute amount of correction exceeds minimum or maximum limits, a DTC sets.
