Pinpoint Test K: Module Configuration Concerns

  1. Refer to Horn/Cigar Lighter for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

During new module installation, configuration files are loaded into the new module being replaced. If a discrepancy is detected between the modules or an incomplete programming procedure is carried out, a DTC is set.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
ABS U2101:56 Control Module Configuration Incompatible: Invalid/Incompatible Configuration Sets if the vehicle configuration information sent from the BCM does not match what is stored in the ABS module.
ABS U2101:46 Control Module Configuration Incompatible: Calibration/Parameter Memory Failure Sets when the IMU Calibration routine has not been carried out.
ABS U2100:46 Initial Configuration Not Complete: Calibration/Parameter Memory Failure Sets when the IMU Calibration routine has not been carried out.
ABS C052B:93 ABS Pump Motor Control Range/Performance: No Operation Sets due to incomplete or improper module programming procedures.
ABS C101F:49 Generic Valve Failure: Internal Electronic Failure Sets due to incomplete or improper module programming procedures.
ABS U1A36:56 Module Code: Invalid/Incompatible Configuration Sets if the vehicle configuration information sent from the BCM does not match what is stored in ABS module.
ABS U2017:93 Control Module Software #2: No Operation Sets due to incomplete or improper module programming procedures.
ABS U2101:00 Control Module Configuration Incompatible: No Sub Type Information Sets due to incomplete or improper module programming procedures.

    Possible Sources

    • Incomplete programming procedure
    • Improper programming procedure
    • ABS module

  2. K1 CHECK THE SERVICE HISTORY

    • Check the service history for recent service actions related to the ABS module or BCM.

Have there been any recent service actions with the ABS module or BCM?

Yes  For recent BCM service actions, GO to  K4 For recent ABS module service actions, GO to  K5.
No  For ABS module concerns, GO to  K2. For all others, GO to  K3.
  3. K2 CHECK FOR ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE COMMUNICATION DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) 'S

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Carry out the ABS self-test.

Are any lost communication or invalid data DTC's present?

Yes  DIAGNOSE these DTC's first. REFER to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart .
    No  GO to  K3
  4. K3 CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) COMMUNICATIONS

    • Carry out the BCM self-test.

Does the diagnostic scan tool communicate with the BCM and retrieve any DTCs?

Yes  DIAGNOSE all BCM DTC's before continuing with this pinpoint test. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) . If the scan tool can communicate with the BCM but there are no DTC's present, GO to  K4.
No  If the scan tool cannot communicate with the BCM, REFER to: Module Programming .
  5. K4 CONFIGURE THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Carry out the BCM programming procedure as directed by the diagnostic scan tool. For additional information, REFER to: Module Programming .

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Clear the ABS DTC's.

    • Carry out the ABS self-test.

Is the original DTC currently present and active?

Yes  DIAGNOSE any BCM DTC's before continuing with this pinpoint test. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
No  The system is operating correctly. The concern was caused by an incomplete or improper programming session.
  6. K5 CONFIGURE THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE USING PMI (PROGRAMMABLE MODULE INSTALLATION)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Carry out the ABS configuration routine as directed by the diagnostic scan tool. For additional information, REFER to: Module Programming .

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Clear the ABS DTCs.

    • Carry out the ABS self-test.

Is the original DTC currently present and active?

    Yes  GO to  K6
No  The system is operating correctly. The concern was caused by an incomplete or improper programming session.
  7. K6 INITIALIZE THE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the ABS calibration routine. Follow all diagnostic scan tool directions.

    • Clear the ABS DTCs.

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Carry out the ABS self-test.

Is the original DTC currently present and active?

Yes  For ABS module concerns on vehicles with EBB, GO to  K8 For ABS module concerns on all other vehicles, GO to  K7
No  The system is operating correctly. The concern was caused by an incomplete or improper programming session.
  8. K7 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect ABS Module connector C135.

    • Using a good light source, inspect the electrical connector for the following:

      • Corrosion - install new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
      • Damaged or bent pins - install new terminals or pins
      • Pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
      • Spread terminals - install new terminals as necessary

    • Connect.

    • ABS module connector C135. Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no services articles address this concern, INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module .
No  The system is operating correctly. The concern was caused by an incomplete or improper programming session.
  9. K8 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • ABS Module connector disconnected, C135
