Possible Causes

  1. AG1: CHECK THE ABS MODULE DTCS 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.

      Carry out the ABS self-test.

    • Are DTCs C0051:xx or C006B:xx present and active in the ABS module? 
    Yes No
    Go to  AG2. If other DTCs are present in the ABS module, DIAGNOSE the ABS module DTCs. REFER to the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control article.
    If there is an "ABS false activation" symptom present, Go to  AG3.
    For all other ABS symptoms, DIAGNOSE the ABS module DTCs. REFER to the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control article.
    If there are no DTCs present in the ABS module or any ABS symptoms present, No fault found.
    DISCONTINUE this test.
  2. AG2: GUIDED DIAGNOSTIC QUESTION 
    • Carry out all diagnostics for any ABS module DTCs or ABS symptoms before continuing with this pinpoint test.
    • Have diagnostics been carried out for all ABS module DTCs or ABS symptoms? 
    Yes No
    Go to  AG3. DIAGNOSE all ABS module DTCs and ABS symptoms. REFER to the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control article.
  3. AG3: VERIFY DRIVING CONDITIONS WHEN TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED 
    • Ask the customer if the vehicle was towing something such as a camper, a trailer, or another vehicle when the traction control warning indicator illuminated.
    • Was the vehicle towing something such as a camper, a trailer, or another vehicle when the traction control warning indicator illuminated? 
    Yes No
    Go to  AG4. Go to  AG5.
  4. AG4: VERIFY TOWING EQUIPMENT INSTALLED CORRECTLY 
    • Review towing equipment (load leveling bars, hitch, etc.) with customer, verify equipment is installed correctly, lubricated as required, etc.
    • Verify towing electrical connections are seated and latched correctly.
    • Once equipment is adjusted and verified to be in good working order:
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Start the vehicle.
      • Make sure the engine ready indicator is illuminated.
    • Clear the ABS DTCs.
    • Drive the vehicle, attempt to replicate the customer's driving conditions.

      Carry out the ABS self-test.

    • Is DTC C006B:xx or C0051:xx present and active in the ABS module? 
    Yes No
    Go to  AG5. The towing equipment adjustments have resolved the ABS C0051:xx DTC and the repair is complete.
  5. AG5: VERIFY OTHER DRIVING CONDITIONS 
    • Ask the customer if the vehicle was driving in heavy cross-winds, on gravel roads, or other non-standard road conditions.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Start the vehicle.
      • Make sure the engine ready indicator is illuminated.
    • Clear the ABS DTCs.
    • Drive the vehicle, attempt to replicate the customer's driving conditions.

      Carry out the ABS self-test.

    • Is DTC C006B:xx or C0051:xx present and active in the ABS module? 
    Yes No
    Go to  AG6. The system is operating correctly at this time and the repair is complete.
  6. AG6: VERIFY STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED AND ALIGNMENT IS CORRECT 
    • Verify the steering wheel is centered and the alignment is correctly set.
    • Is the steering wheel centered and the alignment correctly set? 
    Yes No
    Go to  AG7. ADJUST the front toe, REFER to the Suspension System - General Information article. Go to  AG7.
  7. AG7: CHECK THE STEERING GEAR ATTACHMENT POINTS 
    • Verify the steering gear is properly attached to the frame or sub-frame. Refer to Steering Gear Removal and Installation in the Power Steering article.
    • Verify the steering gear-to-steering shaft joint is correctly installed. Refer to Steering Gear Removal and Installation in the Power Steering article.
    • Are the steering gear attachments properly installed? 
    Yes No
    Go to  AG9. REINSTALL or RECONNECT the steering gear attachment points. REFER to the Power Steering article. Go to  AG9.
  8. AG8: CHECK THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ACTUATOR ATTACHMENT POINTS 
    • Verify the electronic steering actuator is properly attached to the frame. Refer to Electronic Steering Actuator Removal and Installation in the Power Steering article.
    • Verify the electronic steering actuator-to-steering shaft joints are correctly and securely connected. Refer to Electronic Steering Actuator Removal and Installation in the Power Steering article.
    • Is the electronic steering actuator correctly installed and securely fastened to the vehicle? 
    Yes No
    Go to  AG9. REINSTALL or RECONNECT the electronic steering actuator. REFER to the Power Steering article.
    Go to  AG9.
  9. AG9: RECHECK THE ABS MODULE DTCS 
    • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
    • Clear the ABS DTCs.
    • Drive the vehicle, attempt to replicate the customer's driving conditions. Carry out the ABS self-test.
    • Is DTC C006B:xx or C0051:xx present and active in the ABS module? 
    Yes No
    GO to PINPOINT TEST AH . The vehicle is operating correctly at this time. The repairs and adjustments made in this pinpoint test resolved the issue.
