External Controls - Overview
Automatic Transmission External Controls
Vehicles with automatic transmissions are equipped with a floor shift selector lever.
The transmission selector lever linkage consists of:
- a selector lever cable that connects the transmission manual control lever to the selector lever assembly
- a brake shift interlock actuator that is integral to the selector lever assembly
- SelectShift™ allows the driver to manually shift the transmission
The selector lever assembly:
- locks the transmission selector lever in the P position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK position
- requires the transmission selector lever to be in the P position to turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position
Park Lock Control (If Equipped)
Park lock control temporarily allows the vehicle to shift the automatic transmission selector lever from P to N after the ignition is turned off. This enables the vehicle to be in N with the ignition key removed and reduces the vehicle battery discharge in this state.
This feature can be used when double parking the vehicle in N is required. Parking the vehicle parallel to an already parked vehicle is double parking.
When park lock control is switched on, the following steps must be carried out to use the feature. All the steps must be completed within 30 seconds of the ignition being switched off and with the driver's door closed.
- Select P and switch the ignition off
- Remove the key
- Press and hold the brake pedal
- Select N
Selector lever status messages will be displayed in the information display during this active period. Following this active period park lock control deactivates until the next ignition On/Off cycle.
