Pinpoint Test Y: Abs Module Internal Fault Concern

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The ABS module carries out self tests during operation, the module also monitors various inputs and compares the values to what is expected. If the values received are out of range, are not what is expected, or if any of the self tests fail, the ABS module sets a DTC.

REFER to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Stability Control - System Operation and Component Description .

The U3000:XX Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) may set along with other ABS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Diagnose all other ABS module Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) before diagnosing any ABS module U3000:XX Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
ABS C101F:49 Generic Valve Failure: Internal Electronic Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal fault.
ABS C1A08:1C Pressure Sensor Supply: Circuit Voltage Out Of Range Sets when the ABS module detects an internal fault.
ABS U3000:00 Control Module: No Sub Type Information Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:04 Control Module: System Internal Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:41 Control Module: General Checksum Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal software fault.
ABS U3000:44 Control Module: Data Memory Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:45 Control Module: Program Memory Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:47 Control Module: Watchdog/Safety μC Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:48 Control Module: Supervision Software Failure This DTC is for informational purposes only and sets in conjunction with other ABS module Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
ABS U3000:49 Control Module: Internal Electronic Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.
ABS U3000:4B Control Module: Over Temperature Sets when the ABS module detects excessive temperature within the ABS module.
ABS U3000:52 Control Module: Not Activated Sets when the ABS module detects an internal software fault.
ABS U3000:96 Control Module: Component Internal Failure Sets when the ABS module detects an internal hardware fault.

    Possible Causes

    • Incorrect sensor input
    • Stuck valve
    • EBB unit

  2. Y1 GUIDED DIAGNOSTIC QUESTION

    • This step is for vehicles equipped with an EPB system or an EBB unit.

Were you sent here from diagnostics in article 206-05 or 206-07?

    Yes  GO to  Y3
    No  GO to  Y2
  3. Y2 RECHECK THE ABS (ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM) MODULE FOR DTC (DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE) S

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the ABSDTCs.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the ABS self-test.

    • RECORD the ABS module DTC s.

Are any of the DTC s from the Fault Trigger Conditions table present and active in the ABS module?

    Yes  GO to  Y3
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
  4. Y3 CHECK FOR CORRECT EBB (ELECTRIC BRAKE BOOSTER) UNIT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect ABS Module connector C135.

    • Using a good light source, INSPECT the electrical connector for the following:

      • Corrosion - INSTALL new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
      • Damaged or bent pins - INSTALL new terminals or pins
      • Pushed-out pins - INSTALL new pins as necessary
      • Spread terminals - INSTALL new terminals as necessary

    • Connect ABS module connector C135. Make sure the connector seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new EBB unit. REFER to: Electric Brake Booster (EBB) .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
