Self-Diagnostic System: Description: Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 16 other vehicles, including the 1999 GMC Suburban, 1999 GMC Savana Special, 1999 GMC Savana Camper Special, 1999 GMC Savana, and 1999 GMC Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

PCM is equipped with a self-diagnostic system, which detects system failures or abnormalities. When a malfunction occurs, PCM will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and, in most cases, illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) located on instrument cluster. OBD-II requires that PCM illuminate MIL when a malfunction is detected that affects vehicle emissions. Malfunctions are recorded as hard failures or as intermittent failures.
