Test C: Washers Inoperative

  1. If wiper/washer system description and operation has been reviewed and preliminary inspection has been performed, go to next step. If wiper/washer system description and operation has not been reviewed and preliminary inspection has not been performed, go to DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  and DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT  under TROUBLESHOOTING.
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Activate windshield washer. Does the system operate normally? If so, condition is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS  under TROUBLESHOOTING. If not, go to next step.
  3. Turn the ignition OFF. Disconnect the inline harness connector C201 (I/P wiring-to-steering column connector - 48 pins). See Figure . Remove the connector terminal row E from the steering column harness connector. Connect the inline harness connector C201. Turn the ignition ON. Are the windshield washers always on? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  5 .
  4. Repair the windshield washer pump control circuit for a short to voltage. After repairs are complete, go to step  7 .
  5. Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper/washer switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  7 . If not, go to next step.
  6. Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. See WIPER/WASHER SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  7 .
  7. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  3 .
