Removal Procedure

    Fig 1: View Of Differential Carrier Shield

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the steering linkage shield. Refer to Steering Linkage Shield Replacement .
  3. Remove the differential carrier shield mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the differential carrier shield.

    IMPORTANT: Use the proper tool in order to separate all ball joints.
  6. Remove the cotter pin from the steering shock absorber ball stud nut.
  7. Remove the steering shock absorber ball stud nut.

  9. Remove the steering shock absorber from the relay rod using J 24319-B .

  11. Remove the steering shock absorber mounting bolt at the front crossmember bracket nut.
  12. Remove the steering shock absorber mounting bolt from the front crossmember bracket.
  13. Remove the steering shock absorber.
  14. Inspect the ball stud threads for damage.
  15. Inspect the ball stud seals for excessive wear.
  16. Clean the threads in the ball stud and the ball stud nut.
