Removal Procedure

WARNING:

Refer to SIR Warning .

WARNING:

While operating, electrical control modules can produce heat and become hotter than their surroundings. To prevent burns allow sufficient time for the module to cool before removal.

WARNING:

If the windshield needs to be replaced and the vehicle is equipped with a front camera sensor for the Driver Assistance Systems, a GM replacement windshield is recommended. The replacement windshield must be installed according to GM specifications for proper alignment. If it is not, these systems may not work properly, they may display messages, or they may not work at all. If a windshield Is improperly installed, this could result in improper operation of the Forward Facing Camera system which could result in personal injury.

WARNING:

If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.

WARNING:

When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

CAUTION:

If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

CAUTION:

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

    Windshield Wiper Arm Nut Cap- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

  2. Windshield Wiper Arm Nut- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]
  3. Grasp the outer end of the wiper arm and gently rock the arm back and forth, while holding the wiper arm blade off the windshield.
  4. Windshield Wiper Arm- Left Side and Right Side (3) - Remove [2x]

    Air Inlet Grille Panel Extension- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Hood Rear Outer Air Inlet Seal Retainer - Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Windshield Washer Pump Hose (1) @ Windshield Washer Nozzle Hose (2) - Disconnect

    Air Inlet Grille Panel Retainer (1) - Remove [8x]

  10. Air Inlet Grille Panel (2) - Remove
  11. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

    Pull the left side and right side windshield garnish molding (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.

  13. NOTE:

    Tether and bolt are integral to the windshield garnish molding.

  14. Access the windshield garnish bolt (2) which is located on the backside of the windshield garnish molding (1) and secures the tether to the A pillar.
  15. Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt- Left Side and Right Side (2) - Remove [2x]
  16. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  17. Windshield Garnish Molding- Left Side and Right Side (1) - Remove [2x]

    Windshield Multifunction Sensor Mount Bracket Cover Insert (1) - Remove

    Inside Rearview Mirror Bolt (1) - Remove

    Disconnect the electrical connector.

  23. NOTE:

    Observe the mounting and location of the front view camera to ensure proper reinstallation.

  24. Release the retaining tabs.
  25. Slide the front view camera (1) upward to release.

    Disconnect all electrical connectors.

  28. WARNING:

    Refer to Eye Protection Warning .

  29. Windshield Outside Moisture / Ambient Light and Humidity Sensor (1) - Remove and DISCARD

    NOTE:

    Do NOT remove or service the sensor farm pins.

    Front View Driver Information Camera Bracket (1) - Remove

  31. Release the front view driver information camera bracket (1) retaining tabs and slide the bracket upward to disengage the sensor farm pins.
  32. Gently pull the front view driver information camera bracket (1) away from the windshield.

    NOTE:

    Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.

    Use J-24402 - A  Glass Sealant Remover (1) or equivalent regional tools to remove the window.

    • Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
    • The only suitable lubrication is clear water.

    With the aid of an assistant, remove the windshield (1) and locating pin (2) from the vehicle.
