Repair Procedures: Removal
This working procedure does not require engine and transmission assembly removal.
Information
- In case of removing the high pressure fuel pump, high pressure fuel pipe, delivery pipe, and injector, there may be injury caused by leakage of the high pressure fuel. So don't do any repair work right after engine stops.
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Remove the variable force solenoid valve (VFS) first when removing the timing chain cover.
Information
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
- Remove the engine room under cover.
(Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
- Loosen the drain plug and drain the engine coolant.
(Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
- Disconnect the water cooled intercooler outlet hose and then drain the water cooled intercooler coolant.
(Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")
- Drain the engine oil.
(Refer to Lubrication System - "ENGINE OIL ")
- Remove the surge tank.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "SURGE TANK ")
- Remove the water cooled intercooler reservoir tank.
(Refer to Cooling System - "RESERVOIR TANK ")
- Remove the LH and RH cylinder head cover.
(Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "CYLINDER HEAD COVER ")
- Remove the Integrated Thermal Management module (ITM).
(Refer to Cooling System - "INTEGRATED THERMAL MANAGEMENT MODULE (ITM) ")
- Remove the electric water pump (EWP).
(Refer to Cooling System - "ELECTRIC WATER PUMP (EWP) ")
- Remove the water cooled intercooler.
(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "WATER COOLED INTERCOOLER ")
- Remove the idler.
(Refer to Drive Belt System - "IDLER ")
- Remove the drive belt tensioner.
(Refer to Drive Belt System - "DRIVE BELT TENSIONER ")
- Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.
(Refer to Drive Belt System - "CRANKSHAFT DAMPER PULLEY ")
- Remove the oil filter & oil cooler.
(Refer to Lubrication System - "OIL FILTER & OIL COOLER ")
- Remove the alternator.
(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "ALTERNATOR ")
- Remove the A/C compressor.
(Refer to Heating, Ventilation Air conditioning - "COMPRESSOR ")
- Remove the intake and exhaust variable force solenoid valve (VFS) (A).

NOTE:- When removing the timing chain cover, be sure to remove the variable force solenoid valve (VFS) first.
- Remove the front engine hanger (A).
Tightening torque: 44.1 - 53.9 N.m (4.5 - 5.5 kgf.m, 32.5 - 39.8 lb-ft)
- Remove the timing chain cover (A) with the water pump.NOTE:
- When removing the timing chain cover, be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of cylinder block, cylinder head, lower crankcase and cam carrier.
- When removing the timing chain cover, remove the water pump mounting bolts (A).
- Do not disassemble and reassemble the timing chain cover as it is supplied with water pump.
