Repair Procedures: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

This working procedure does not require engine and transmission assembly removal.

Information 

NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
  • Remove the variable force solenoid valve (VFS) first when removing the timing chain cover.

Information 

  1. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  2. Loosen the drain plug and drain the engine coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  3. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler outlet hose and then drain the water cooled intercooler coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  4. Drain the engine oil.

    (Refer to Lubrication System - "ENGINE OIL ")

  5. Remove the surge tank.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "SURGE TANK ")

  6. Remove the water cooled intercooler reservoir tank.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "RESERVOIR TANK ")

  7. Remove the LH and RH cylinder head cover.

    (Refer to Cylinder Head Assembly - "CYLINDER HEAD COVER ")

  8. Remove the Integrated Thermal Management module (ITM).

    (Refer to Cooling System - "INTEGRATED THERMAL MANAGEMENT MODULE (ITM) ")

  9. Remove the electric water pump (EWP).

    (Refer to Cooling System - "ELECTRIC WATER PUMP (EWP) ")

  10. Remove the water cooled intercooler.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "WATER COOLED INTERCOOLER ")

  11. Remove the idler.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "IDLER ")

  12. Remove the drive belt tensioner.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "DRIVE BELT TENSIONER ")

  13. Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.

    (Refer to Drive Belt System - "CRANKSHAFT DAMPER PULLEY ")

  14. Remove the oil filter & oil cooler.

    (Refer to Lubrication System - "OIL FILTER & OIL COOLER ")

  15. Remove the alternator.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "ALTERNATOR ")

  16. Remove the A/C compressor.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation Air conditioning - "COMPRESSOR ")

  17. Remove the intake and exhaust variable force solenoid valve (VFS) (A).

    NOTE:
    • When removing the timing chain cover, be sure to remove the variable force solenoid valve (VFS) first.
  18. Remove the front engine hanger (A).

    Tightening torque:  44.1 - 53.9 N.m (4.5 - 5.5 kgf.m, 32.5 - 39.8 lb-ft)

  19. Remove the timing chain cover (A) with the water pump.

    NOTE:
    • When removing the timing chain cover, be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of cylinder block, cylinder head, lower crankcase and cam carrier.
    • When removing the timing chain cover, remove the water pump mounting bolts (A).

    • Do not disassemble and reassemble the timing chain cover as it is supplied with water pump.
