SERVICE INFORMATION
This bulletin serves to revise the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Adjustment Procedure (A/T only) in Section 6E2-C2 "Driveability And Emissions" in the 1989 and 1990 Geo Metro 1.0L (VIN 6) "M" Carline Service Manual. The attached page reflects the revised Throttle Position Sensor Adjustment and revised Fig 5 .
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) (A/T ONLY)
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT TPS
See Fig 3 .
- Air cleaner assembly.
- TPS connector.
- 2 retaining screws for TPS.
- TPS from throttle body.
ADJUST
- Connect DVM on "ohms" scale to TPS terminals "A" and "B". See Fig 4 .
- Insert 0.3mm (.012") feeler gage between throttle stop screw and throttle lever. See Fig 1 .
- With retaining screws loosely installed, turn TPS fully clockwise, then slowly counterclockwise just until DVM indicates zero ohms (continuity, switch closed). Tighten retaining screws to 2.0 N-m (18 lb. in.).
- Remove feeler gage. DVM should still indicate zero ohms (continuity, switch closed).
- Insert 0.9mm (.035") feeler gage between throttle stop screw and throttle lever. DVM should now indicate an open circuit (no continuity, switch open).
- Connect TPS electrical connector.
