July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

Camshaft Position Sensor (PRIZM)

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Remove rotor from distributor housing. Remove coil dust cover and gasket from distributor housing. Remove 2 nuts and 4 wires from ignition coil terminals. Remove 4 screws and 3 wires from ignitor terminals. Remove 2 screws and ignitor from distributor housing.
  2. Remove 2 connectors from harness retainer. Remove distributor wire from housing. Remove screw and noise suppressor condenser from housing.
  3. Measure resistance of distributor connector C1, when cold(14-104°F; -10-50°C), between terminals No. 3 and 6. See Fig 1 . Replace distributor housing if resistance of Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor is not 185-275 ohms.

  4. Measure resistance of connector C1, when cold, between terminals No. 2 and 5. If resistance of CMP sensor is not 370-550 ohms, replace distributor housing.
  5. Measure resistance of connector C1, when hot(104-212°F; 50-100°C), between terminals No. 3 and 6. If resistance of CMP sensor is not 240-325 ohms, replace distributor housing.
  6. Measure resistance of connector C1, when hot, between terminals No. 2 and 5. If resistance of CMP sensor is not 475-650 ohms, replace distributor housing.
  7. Measure air gap between signal rotor and camshaft position sensor. If air gap is not .008-.016" (.20-.40 mm), replace distributor housing. When testing is complete, reverse disassembly procedure.
