Throttle Control Cable: Notes

Carbureted Engine

1) Before adjusting transaxle throttle control cable, ensure carburetor inner throttle cable has correct free play. Check carburetor cable deflection with throttle in idle position. Inner cable deflection should be 3.16-3/8" (4-10 mm).

2) Engine should be normal operating temperature and idle speed correct. Ensure throttle control bracket is correctly adjusted. Disconnect throttle control cable from transaxle.

3) On Civic and CRX/si models only, disconnect vacuum hose from dashpot. Connect vacuum pump and apply vacuum. This will simulate normal running position of dashpot.

4) To adjust transaxle throttle control cable on all models, attach a weight of about 3 lbs. on accelerator pedal. Raise and release pedal. This will allow weight to remove normal free play from cable.

5) Adjust distance between cable end and lock nut "A" to 3.37" (85.5 mm). Keep lock nut "A" at this position.

6) Insert end of throttle control cable on transaxle. Use lock nut "B" to secure cable on bracket, keeping "A" in place. Cable must move freely after installation.

7) Remove weight on accelerator pedal. Push on accelerator pedal and make sure specified free play exists at transaxle throttle control lever.

8) Start engine. Press accelerator pedal and check synchronization between carburetor and throttle control cable. Transaxle throttle control cable should start to move as engine speed increases.

9) If transaxle throttle control lever moves before engine speed increases, turn cable lock nut "A" counterclockwise and tighten lock nut "B". If throttle control lever moves after engine speed increases. loosen lock nut "B". Turn lock nut "A" clockwise and tighten lock nut "B".
