Civic (D16Y5 Engine With M/T) & Prelude

  1. Place transmission in Neutral or Park position (A/T) or depress clutch pedal (M/T). Turn ignition switch to START position. Using backprobe set, measure voltage between PCM 32-pin connector "A" terminals No. 9 (Brown/Black wire) and 31-pin connector "C" terminal No. 6 (Blue/Orange on Civic or Blue/Red wire on Prelude). See PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS article. If battery voltage exists, starter switch signal is okay. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Inspect STARTER SIGNAL (7.5-amp) fuse. See STARTER SIGNAL FUSE IDENTIFICATION  table. If fuse is okay, repair open circuit between STARTER SIGNAL (7.5-amp) fuse and 31-pin connector "C" terminal No. 6. If fuse is not okay, repair short in circuit between STARTER SIGNAL (7.5-amp) fuse and PCM 31-pin connector "C" terminal No. 6 or PGM-FI connector terminal No. 2. Replace STARTER SIGNAL (7.5-amp) fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
