DTC P1655: SEAF/SEFA A/T Signal Line Failure

  1. Perform PCM reset procedure. See PCM RESET PROCEDURE/CLEARING DTCS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Drive vehicle for several miles at various speeds ensuring transmission upshifts and downshifts several times. If DTC P1655 is indicated, go to next step. If DTC P1655 is not indicated, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at Transmission Control Module (TCM) 22-pin connector "B" and PCM 31-pin connector "C". See Figure and Fig 1 . TCM is located under passenger's footrest, next to PCM. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 31-pin connector "C". Disconnect TCM 22-pin connector "B". See Figure and Fig 1 . Check for continuity between ground and PCM 31-pin harness connector "C" terminals No. 30 (Green/Blue wire) and No. 31 (Green/Yellow wire) individually. If continuity does not exist in both wires, go to next step. If continuity exists in either wire, repair short in suspect wire between PCM and TCM.
  3. Check for continuity in signal lines between PCM 31-pin harness connector "C" and TCM 22-pin harness connector "B". If checking SEAF signal line, check for continuity in Green/Blue wire between PCM 31-pin harness connector "C" terminal No. 30 and TCM 22-pin harness connector "B" terminal No. 18. If checking SEFA signal line, check for continuity in Green/Yellow wire between PCM 31-pin harness connector "C" terminal No. 31 and TCM harness connector "B" terminal No. 19. See Figure and Fig 1 . If continuity does not exist, repair open in suspect wire between PCM and TCM. If continuity exists, substitute a known good PCM, then recheck. See SUBSTITUTING PCM under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If symptom or indication goes away, replace original PCM.
