NOTE:
  • The parking brake cables must not be bent or distorted. This will lead to stiff operation and premature cable failure.
  • Refer to the EXPLODED VIEW  as needed during this procedure.
  1. Release the parking brake lever fully.
  2. Remove the center console (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  3. Remove the wire guide base (A), then disconnect the parking brake cables (B) from the equalizer (C).

  4. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever assembly (see PARKING BRAKE SHOE REPLACEMENT  ).
  5. Remove the parking brake cable mounting nuts from the backing plate (A), and remove the parking brake cable (B).

  6. 2WD: Remove the heat shield (A).

  7. Remove the parking brake cable grommets, and pull out the parking brake cable from the body floor.
  8. Remove the parking brake cable mounting hardware, then remove the parking brake cable.
  9. Install the parking brake cable in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
