Wiper/Washer Switch Input Test

  1. Remove the wiper/washer switch (see WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT ).

  2. With the connector connected, make these input tests at the connector.
    • If a test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If the input tests prove OK, go to step  3.
    PROBLEM SYMPTOMS CHART

    Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if result is not obtained
    14 GRN/BLK Ignition switch ON (II) Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 6 (30 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
    • An open in the wire
    4 BLK Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.5 V.
    • Poor ground (G402)
    • An open in the wire
    12 BLU/WHT Ignition switch ON (II), the windshield wiper switch in "INT" Measure the voltage between the No. 12 and No. 4 terminals: There should be battery voltage when the wipers are in the parked position. There should be 0 V when the wipers are off the park position.
    • Faulty wipers/washers switch
    • Faulty windshield wiper motor
    • An open in the wire
  3. Disconnect the connector from the windshield wiper/washer switch.
    • If the test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If the input test prove OK, go to wiper/washer switch test (see WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT ).

    5 BLU Connect the No. 5 terminal to the No. 4 terminal with a jumper wire, and turn the ignition switch ON (II) Wipers should run on high speed
    • Faulty wiper motor
    • An open in the wire
    11 BLU/YEL Connect the No. 11 terminal to the No. 4 terminal with a jumper wire, and turn the ignition switch ON (II) Wipers should run on low speed
    • Faulty wiper motor
    • An open in the wire
    6 WHT/BLK Connect the No. 6 terminal to the No. 14 terminal with a jumper wire, and turn the ignition switch ON (II) Washer motor should run
    • Faulty washer motor
    • Poor ground (G201)
    • An open in the wire
