Paddle Shifter - (Downshift Switch) Circuit Troubleshooting
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ), and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
- Remove the steering wheel (see STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL ).
- Check for continuity between cable reel subharness 13P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 7 while pressing paddle shifter - (downshift switch) and when the paddle shifter - is released.
Is there continuity while pressing the paddle shifter - and no continuity when the paddle shifter - is released?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Go to step 3.
- Disconnect the paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector.
- Check for continuity between paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector terminals while pressing the paddle shifter - and when the paddle shifter - is released.
Is there continuity while pressing the paddle shifter - and no continuity when the paddle shifter - is released?
YES - Replace the cable reel subharness (see CABLE REEL SUBHARNESS REPLACEMENT ).
NO - Replace the paddle shifter - (see PADDLE SHIFTER - (DOWNSHIFT SWITCH) REPLACEMENT ).
- Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 13P connector from the back of the cable reel.
- Check for continuity dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 7.
NO - Repair open in the wire between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 2 and ground (G402), or repair poor ground (G402).
- Check for continuity between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 7 and body ground.Fig 4: Checking Continuity Between Dashboard Wire Harness 13P Connector Terminal No. 7 And Body Ground
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 7 and PCM connector terminal D9.
NO - Go to step 8.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and shift to S.
- Measure the voltage between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 2 and No. 7.
Is there battery voltage ?
YES - Replace the cable reel (see CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT ).
NO - Go to step 10.
- Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminal D9 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Check for loose or poor connections at PCM connector terminal D9. If the connection is OK, substitute a known-good PCM (see SUBSTITUTING THE PCM ) and recheck.
NO - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D9 and the dashboard wire harness 13P connector.
