Paddle Shifter - (Downshift Switch) Circuit Troubleshooting

  1. Remove the steering wheel (see STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL ).
  2. Check for continuity between cable reel subharness 13P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 7 while pressing paddle shifter - (downshift switch) and when the paddle shifter - is released.

    Is there continuity while pressing the paddle shifter - and no continuity when the paddle shifter - is released? 

    YES  - Go to step  5.

    NO  - Go to step  3.

  3. Disconnect the paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector.
  4. Check for continuity between paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector terminals while pressing the paddle shifter - and when the paddle shifter - is released.

    Is there continuity while pressing the paddle shifter - and no continuity when the paddle shifter - is released? 

    YES  - Replace the cable reel subharness (see CABLE REEL SUBHARNESS REPLACEMENT ).

    NO  - Replace the paddle shifter - (see PADDLE SHIFTER - (DOWNSHIFT SWITCH) REPLACEMENT ).

  5. Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 13P connector from the back of the cable reel.
  6. Check for continuity dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  - Go to step  7.

    NO  - Repair open in the wire between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 2 and ground (G402), or repair poor ground (G402).

  7. Check for continuity between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 7 and body ground.

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  - Repair short in the wire between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 7 and PCM connector terminal D9.

    NO  - Go to step  8.

  8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and shift to S.
  9. Measure the voltage between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 2 and No. 7.

    Is there battery voltage ? 

    YES  - Replace the cable reel (see CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT ).

    NO  - Go to step  10.

  10. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminal D9 and body ground.

    Is there battery voltage? 

    YES  - Check for loose or poor connections at PCM connector terminal D9. If the connection is OK, substitute a known-good PCM (see SUBSTITUTING THE PCM ) and recheck.

    NO  - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D9 and the dashboard wire harness 13P connector.
