SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING INDEX

Symptom	Diagnostic procedure
Charging system indicator does not come on with the ignition switch to ON (II)	Troubleshoot the charging system indicator circuit (see CHARGING SYSTEM INDICATOR CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ).
Charging system indicator stays on	Troubleshoot the charging system indicator circuit (see CHARGING SYSTEM INDICATOR CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ) Check for a broken drive belt: J35A6 ENGINE J35A7 ENGINE Check the drive belt auto-tensioner: J35A6 ENGINE J35A7 ENGINE Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION )
Battery discharged	Check for loose battery connections and all alternator circuit connections. Check for a broken drive belt: J35A6 ENGINE J35A7 ENGINE Test the battery (see BATTERY TEST ). Check the drive belt auto-tensioner: J35A6 ENGINE J35A7 ENGINE Troubleshoot the alternator and regulator circuit (see ALTERNATOR AND REGULATOR CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ). Check for excessive parasitic electrical current draw with the ignition switch is in LOCK (0), and the key removed. The multiplex control unit may take up to 10 minutes to turn off (sleep mode) for some models.
Battery overcharged	Test the battery (see BATTERY TEST ). Troubleshoot the alternator and regulator circuit (see ALTERNATOR AND REGULATOR CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING ).
Multi-information display warning CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM (With multi-information display)	Check for PGM-FI DTCs (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
