Immobilizer Control Unit-Receiver Input Test

NOTE: Before troubleshooting check the No. 7 (7.5 A) and No. 19 (15 A) fuses in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
  1. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  2. Remove the steering column covers (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
  3. Disconnect the 7P connector (A) from the immobilizer control unit-receiver (B).

  4. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.
    • If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
    • If the terminals look OK, go to step 5.
  5. Reconnect the connector to the immobilizer control unit-receiver, and make these input tests at the connector.
    • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, the immobilizer control unit-receiver must be faulty; replace it.
    PROBLEM SYMPTOM CHART

Cavity Wire (Signal) Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
1 BRN/YEL (LG1) Under all conditions Measure voltage to ground:
There should be less than 0.5 V.
    • Poor ground (G101)
    • An open in the wire
    • Faulty PCM
7 WHT/RED (+B) Under all conditions Measure voltage between immobilizer control unit-receiver 7P connector No. 7 terminal and body ground:
    There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 7 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
    • An open in the wire
6 BLK/GRN (IG1) Ignition switch ON (II) Measure voltage to ground:
    There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 19 (15 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
    • An open in the wire
2 RED/BLU (IMOLD) (S-NET) PCM, imoes unit, and immobilizer control unit-receiver connectors disconnected Should have continuity between PCM, imoes unit and immobilizer control unit-receiver. Should not have continuity to ground.
    • Open circuit
    • Short to ground
