Key Interlock Solenoid Test

  1. Remove the steering column covers (see COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  2. Disconnect the steering lock 6P connector (A).

  3. Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, then turn the ignition key to ACCESSORY (I).
  4. Connect the positive battery terminal to steering lock assembly connector terminal No. 3, and connect the negative battery terminal to terminal No. 4. Check that the ignition key cannot be turned to LOCK (0). Release the battery terminals, and check that the key can be turned to the LOCK (0) position and removed from the cylinder.
  5. If the key interlock solenoid does not work properly, faulty key inter lock solenoid; replace the steering lock (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
