Key Interlock Solenoid Test

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ), and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.

  1. Remove the driver's dashboard lower cover (see DRIVER'S DASHBOARD LOWER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  2. Remove the steering column covers (see step 5 STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
  3. Disconnect the steering lock assembly 6P connector.
  4. Insert the ignition key in the key cylinder, then turn the ignition switch to ACCESSORY (I).
  5. Connect battery power to steering lock assembly 6P connector terminal No. 4, and ground to terminal No. 3. Then try turning the ignition switch to LOCK (0); the ignition switch should not turn.

  6. Disconnect battery power and ground from the terminals, then turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and remove the key; the ignition switch should turn and the key can be removed.
  7. If the key interlock solenoid does not work properly, replace the steering lock (see STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT ).
