Horn Switch Test
NOTE:
- SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ), and precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before performing repairs or servicing.
- Check for a blown No. B24 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box. If it is blown, check for a faulty horn relay.
- Turn the steering wheel 180 degrees from the center position and remove the cover (A).
- Disconnect the horn switch 1P connector (B).
- Connect the horn switch 1P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground with a jumper wire.
- If the horns does not sound, go to step 4.
- If the horns sound, go to step 11.
- Remove the jumper wire from the horn switch 1P connector.
- Remove the driver's airbag assembly (see DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ).
- Disconnect the cable reel subharness 20P connector (A) to the cable reel.
- Check for continuity between the cable reel subharness 20P connector terminal No. 20 and horn switch 1P connector terminal No. 1.
- If there is continuity, go to step 8.
- If there is no continuity, repair an open in the wire or faulty cruise control combination switch.
- Remove the steering column covers (see STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ).
- Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 20P connector (A) from the cable reel (B).
- Connect the dashboard wire harness 20P connector terminal No. 10 and body ground with a jumper wire. The horns should sound.
- If the horns does not sound, check these items. If OK, faulty MICU.
- Horn.
- Horn relay, horn diode.
- An open or high resistance in the wire.
- If the horns sounds, replace the cable reel (see CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT ).
- If the horns does not sound, check these items. If OK, faulty MICU.
- Remove the driver's airbag assembly (see DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ).
- Check the installation of the driver's airbag assembly and the steering wheel. If OK, replace the driver's airbag assembly (see DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ).
