General Description
The powertrain control module monitors the controlled valve operation (CVO) of each injector. The CVO corrects the injection time of every injector to get a correct fuel quantity. After base adaption is finished in every injection the current injection time variation will be checked against a diagnosis threshold. If the result exceeds a threshold, error counter is incremented. If the error counter exceeds a specified count, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The error counter exceeds 100 counts.*
*: The error count is incremented to the counter if the current injection time variation is more than 200 microseconds.

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
