July 1: So it begins. Don't worry, this is not in the correct legal jurisdiction!

VTEC Rocker Arm Test (J35Y2): Test

  1. Ignition coil and spark plug - Remove

Remove the six ignition coils and the six spark plugs - Refer to: Ignition Coil and Spark Plug Removal and Installation (V6), or Ignition Coil and Spark Plug Removal and Installation (L4) .

  2. Cylinder Head Cover - Remove

Remove the cylinder head cover - Refer to: Cylinder Head Cover Removal and Installation (V6), or Cylinder Head Cover Removal and Installation (L4) (2013), or Cylinder Head Cover Removal and Installation (L4) (2014-17) .

  3. VTEC Rocker Arm - Test

    1. Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise. Make sure that the intake primary rocker arm (A) should move independently of the intake secondary rocker arm (B):
    • If the intake primary and secondary rocker arms do not move independently, remove the intake primary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly, and check that the pistons in the rocker arms move smoothly. If any intake rocker arm needs replacing, replace the primary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly, then retest.
    • If the intake primary and secondary rocker arms move independently, go to the next procedure.
  4. Air Pressure - Check

Check that the air pressure on the shop air compressor gauge indicates over 981 kPa (10. 00 kgf/cm2 , 142. 3 psi).

  5. Valve Clearance - Inspect

Inspect the valve clearance - Refer to: Valve Clearance Adjustment (V6),  or Valve Clearance Adjustment (L4) .

  6. VTEC Change Over - Test

    1. Remove the sealing bolt, then install the VCM air adapter (A) and VTEC air stop tool B to the inspection hole

    2. Connect the air pressure regulator (C).

    3. Remove the sealing bolt (A) and install the bolt to the bolt hole (B)

    4. Install the VCM air adapter (C) to the inspection hole, then connect the air pressure regulator (D) as shown

    5. Loosen the valve on the air pressure regulator, and apply the specified air pressure.

    Specified Air Pressure:
    550-690 kPa (5. 6-7. 0 kgf/cm2, 80-100 psi)

    6. With the specified air pressure applied, rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise. Make sure that the intake primary rocker arm (A) and the intake secondary rocker arm (B) are mechanically connected by the pistons and that the intake primary and secondary rocker arms should move together:
    • If the intake primary and secondary rocker arms move independently, remove the intake primary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly, and check that the pistons in the rocker arms move smoothly. If any intake rocker arm needs replacing, replace the primary and secondary rocker arms as an assembly, then retest.
    • If the mid, primary, and secondary rocker arms move together, go to the next procedure.
  7. Air Pressure Regulator, VTEC Air Stop Tool B, and VCM Adapter - Remove

Remove the air pressure regulator, VTEC air stop tool B, and VCM air adapter.

  8. Sealing Bolt - Install

    Torque the new sealing bolts to 22 N. m (2. 2 kgf. m, 16 lbf. ft).

  9. Cylinder Head Cover - Install

Install the cylinder head cover - Refer to: Cylinder Head Cover Removal and Installation (V6), or Cylinder Head Cover Removal and Installation (L4) (2013), or Cylinder Head Cover Removal and Installation (L4) (2014-17) .

  10. Ignition coil and spark plug - Install

Install the six ignition coils and the six spark plugs - Refer to: Ignition Coil and Spark Plug Removal and Installation (V6), or Ignition Coil and Spark Plug Removal and Installation (L4) .
