DTC P170B: Dog Clutch "A" Abnormal Operation
General Description
The transmission control module (TCM) monitors dog clutch A condition while shifting (R to D position/mode, N to D position/mode, P to D position/mode). If dog clutch A does not operate intermittently while shifting (R to D position/mode, N to D position/mode, P to D position/mode) which accompanies dog clutch A to engage, the TCM stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
Dog clutch A does not operate intermittently while shifting (R to D position/mode, N to D position/mode, P to D position/mode) which accompanies dog clutch A to engage.
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- 1.
Start the engine.
- 2.
While pressing the brake pedal, shift the transmission from R position/mode to D position/mode.
- 3.
While pressing the brake pedal, shift the transmission from N position/mode to D position/mode.
- 4.
While pressing the brake pedal, shift the transmission from P position/mode to D position/mode.
- It may be difficult to reproduce the failure by the test-drive.

Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the TCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
