Navigation System Symptom Troubleshooting - Voice guidance cannot be heard, is broken up, or there is static
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first .
- Check the volume and voice feedback setting for the navigation system in set-up.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Problem verification
-1. Check the navigation voice guidance output.
Does the system output the voice guidance?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
- Determine possible failure area (voice guidance output circuit, others)
-1. Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use the speaker check mode .
Did all speakers produce a tone?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Go to No sound is heard from the speakers (display is normal) troubleshooting .
- Shorted wire check (AUX NAVI line, AUX NAVI GND line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
-2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P) Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector B (28P): disconnected Test circuit 1 Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P) No. 19 Test point 2 Body ground Test circuit 2 Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P) No. 21 Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s). Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The AUX NAVI and the AUX NAVI GND wires are not shorted. Go to step 4.
- Shorted wire check (AUX NAVI lines)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector B (28P): disconnected Test point 1:Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P) Test points 2:Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P) No. 19 No. 21, No. 22 No. 21 No. 22 Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES
There is a short in the wires. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The NAVI AUX wires are not shorted. Go to step 5.
- Open wire check (AUX NAVI line, AUX NAVI GND line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P): disconnected Stereo amplifier connector B (28P): disconnected Test circuit 1 Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P) No. 19 Test point 2 Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) No. 19 Test circuit 2 Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector J (28P) No. 21 Test point 2 Stereo amplifier connector B (28P) No. 4 Is there continuity?
YES
The AUX NAVI and the AUX NAVI GND wires are OK. Go to step 6.
NO
There is an open in the wire(s). Replace the affected shielded harness.
- Stereo amplifier check (substitution)
-1. Substitute a known-good stereo amplifier .
-2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original stereo amplifier .
NO
