DTC P0462, P0463 (2018 2019)

DTC P0462:  Fuel Level Sensor (Fuel Gauge Sending Unit) Circuit Low Voltage

DTC P0463:  Fuel Level Sensor (Fuel Gauge Sending Unit) Circuit High Voltage

General Description

GHH416712Courtesy of HONDA, U.S.A., INC.

The fuel level sensor (fuel gauge sending unit) is incorporated into the fuel pump and installed in the fuel tank. Using a built-in potentiometer and float, it converts the movement of the float to electrical signals as an output that corresponds fuel level variations in the fuel tank. The fuel level, which is indicated by the gauge control module, is sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) via the controller area network (CAN). If the received voltage information from the gauge control module is high or low for a set time, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type

Execution Continuous
Sequence None
Duration 5 seconds or more
DTC Type Two drive cycles, MIL off

Enable Conditions

Condition Minimum Maximum
12 volt battery voltage 10.0 V -
Vehicle ON mode

Malfunction Threshold

DTC: P0462

The voltage information of the circuit between the fuel level sensor (fuel gauge sending unit) and the gauge control module which the PCM received from the gauge control module is low for at least 5 seconds.

DTC: P0463

The voltage information of the circuit between the fuel level sensor (fuel gauge sending unit) and the gauge control module which the PCM received from the gauge control module is high for at least 5 seconds.

Possible Cause

NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

DTC: P0462

DTC: P0463

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, a Confirmed DTC the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
