DTC P14A0: Engine Abnormal Vibration
General Description
Engine resonance has the potential to cause severe engine damage. As a result, the flywheel is equipped with a high rate spring to help smooth out the transmission of power between the engine and the generator motor. But there are still certain RPM levels where resonance can cause vibration. When resonance is detected by the powertrain control module (PCM), the RPM range is avoided. This is also the case if resonance is caused by misfire, engine failure or generator motor failure.

Malfunction Threshold
When vibration due to engine resonance has increased.
Possible Cause
- Misfire (1 cylinder or 2 cylinder continuation misfires)
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
The vehicle drive or stop for at least 2.2 seconds.
- Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.
With the HDS
None.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
