Engine Removal and Installation: Removal
NOTE:
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.
- Vehicle - Lift
1. Raise and support the vehicle . - Hood - Wide Open
1. Open the hood, and secure it with the hood support rod (A) in the wide-open position (B). - Fuel Pressure - Relieve
- Under-Cowl Panel - Remove
- Wiper Motor - Remove
- 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect
- Positive Cable (12 Volt Battery Terminal Fuse Box) - Disconnect
- 12 Volt Battery - Remove
- Front Grille Cover - Remove
- Air Intake Duct - Remove
- Air Cleaner - Remove
- Connector (Engine Wire Harness) - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the connectors (A) 2. Remove the harness clamps (B).
- EVAP Canister Purge Hose - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge hose (A). - Fuel Feed Hose - Disconnect
1. Remove the bracket (A). 2. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (B).
3. Disconnect the fuel feed hose (C) .
- Steering Joint - Disconnect
NOTE: Hold the steering wheel in the steering wheel holder tool.
- Radiator Cap - Remove
- Vehicle - Lift
- Front Wheels - Remove
- Engine Undercover - Remove
- Engine Coolant - Drain
- Engine Oil - Drain
- Transmission Fluid - Drain
1. Drain the transmission fluid: - Under-Floor TWC - Remove
- Lower Arm Ball Joint - Disconnect
- Front Stabilizer Link Ball Joint - Disconnect
- Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnect
- Front Driveshaft - Remove
- Vehicle - Lift
1. Lower the vehicle. - Change Wire Bracket - Remove (M/T)
- Slave Cylinder - Remove (M/T)
NOTE: Without disconnecting the clutch line.
- Shift Cable (Transmission Side) - Disconnect (CVT)
- Radiator Upper Hose - Disconnect
- Fuel Joint Pipe Bracket - Remove
- First Universal Lifting Eyelet - Install
- Heater Hose - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the heater hoses (A). - Engine Support Hanger - Install
1. Install the engine support hanger onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook (A) to the slotted hole in the first universal lifting eyelet (B). Tighten the wing nut (C) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission. NOTE:
- Be careful when working around the windshield.
- Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead.
- Vehicle - Lift
1. Raise the vehicle. - Front Inner Fender - Remove
- A/C Compressor - Remove
1. Disconnect the connector (A) 2. Remove the A/C compressor (B) without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively.
NOTE: Hang the A/C compressor with a wire tie.
- Lower Radiator Hose - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the lower radiator hose (A) 2. CVT: Disconnect the water hose (B).
- Torque Rod - Remove

CVT
- Front Subframe - Support
1. Support the front subframe with a transmission jack. - Front Subframe - Remove
1. Remove the front subframe bracket bolts on both sides. 2. Remove the front subframe. - Vehicle - Lift
1. Lower the vehicle. - Side Engine Mount - Remove
- Second Universal Lifting Eyelet - Install
- Chain Hoist - Install
1. Attach a chain hoist (A) to the second universal lifting eyelet (B) and the transmission hanger (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it is securely supported by the chain hoist. - Engine Support Hanger and First Universal Lifting Eyelet - Remove
- Transmission Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt and Nut - Remove

CVT
- Engine - Remove
1. Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of the vacuum hoses, the fuel hoses, the coolant hoses, and the electrical wiring 2. Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (5.91 in). Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it
3. Remove the chain hoist from the engine/transmission
4. Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.
