- Problem verification (idling)
-1. Record all the on-board snapshots with the HDS.
-2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
-3. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
Clear DTC
-4. Start the engine.
-5. Hold the engine speed at 3000 RPM without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
-6. Select the DI Fuel Pressure Test in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

Is the result OK?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 3.
- Problem verification (test-drive):
Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the range of these recorded on-board snapshot parameters:
- ENGINE SPEED
- VEHICLE SPEED
- MAP Sensor (Hi Res)
- TP SENSOR
- APP SENSOR
- ECT SENSOR 1
- FUEL PRESSURE CONVERTED FROM PF SENSOR
- FUEL PRESSURE DIRECT INJECTION SYSTEM
- IAT SENSOR (1)

DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator Performance Is DTC P0089 indicated?
YES
The failure is duplicated. Go to step 3.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Test PGM-FI main relay 2 . If the relay is OK, check for a poor connection or loose terminals at the fuel rail pressure sensor, the high pressure fuel pump, and the PCM. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot .
- Fuel pressure check (low pressure side)
-1. Check the fuel pressure .
Is the fuel pressure OK?
YES
The fuel pressure (low pressure side) is OK. Go to step 4.
NO
Check the fuel pump, the fuel pressure regulator, the fuel filter , and the fuel lines .
- High pressure fuel pump cam and pump lifter visual check
-1. Remove the high pressure fuel pump .
Are the parts OK?
YES
Replace the high pressure fuel pump .
NO
Check for damage of the cam and the pump lifter , and replace the exhaust camshaft and/or the high pressure fuel pump if needed.
