DTC P0606, P1A48, P1A49, P1A4A
DTC P0606: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Processor Malfunction
DTC P1A48: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Internal Malfunction (SBW Different Run)
DTC P1A49: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Internal Malfunction (SBW Parking Position)
DTC P1A4A: Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Internal Malfunction (SBW Display Position)
General Description
An abnormal condition is detected based on the correlation between the input signal of the shift by wire (SBW) shifter control module (in) and the position indication/display (out). The SBW control, which is the target of this detection, shifts the shift position/mode only when there is an input from the SBW shifter control module. If the shift position/mode changes with no signal from the SBW shifter control module, the powertrain control module (PCM) detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
| Representative code | False command of shift position/mode | False command of parking release | False command of displaying position/mode | |
| DTC | P0606* | P1A48 | P1A49 | P1A4A |
*: DTC P0606 is stored when DTC P1A48, P1A49, and/or P1A4A are stored.

Malfunction Threshold
DTC: P1A48
One of the conditions is occurred for a specified time:
- The shift position/mode command changed from D to R with no signal input from the SBW shifter control module.
- The shift position/mode command changed from R to D with no signal input from the SBW shifter control module.
- The shift position/mode command changed from R to D while D to R is input from the SBW shifter control module.
DTC: P1A49
The shift position/mode command changed to parking release even when R, N, or D is not input from the SBW shifter control module.
DTC: P1A4A
One of the conditions is occurred for a specified time
- The shift position/mode display request changed from D to R with no signal input from the SBW shifter control module.
- The shift position/mode display request changed from R to D while D to R is input from the SBW shifter control module.
- The shift position/mode display request changed to P while park position sensor signal is not P.
Possible Cause
- PCM internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot are stored in the PCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, the freeze data, and the on-board snapshot can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
