DTC P100C
DTC P100C: Electric VTC Motor Speed Signal Circuit Malfunction
General Description
The EVTS line and the EVTM line of the powertrain control module (PCM) receive the electric VTC motor revolution speed and the electric VTC motor revolution direction data and output pulses accordingly. The EVTM outputs the same pulse as the EVTS when the electric VTC motor revolution direction is normal and outputs reverse pulse of the EVTS when reversing. The PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC when the EVTS pulse number and the EVTD pulse number sent from the electric VTC motor are different continuously for the prescribed time.

[ ]: HDS Parameter
Malfunction Threshold
When the EVTS line pulse number and the EVTD line pulse number are different continuously for 5 seconds or more when the PCM has turned on the electric VTC relay.
Possible Cause
- Electric VTC motor EVTS line open
- Electric VTC motor EVTD line open
- Electric VTC motor EVTS line short
- Electric VTC motor EVTD line short
- Electric VTC motor EVTS line electrical noise overlapped
- Electric VTC motor EVTD line electrical noise overlapped
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
With the HDS
Do the VTC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
