Steering Column/EPS Control Unit Removal and Installation: Removal

NOTE:
  1. Steering Column Tilt and Telescopic Position - Set
    1. Set the steering column to the center tilt position, and to the center telescopic position.
  2. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect
  3. Driver's Airbag - Remove
  4. Steering Wheel - Remove - Refer to: Steering Wheel Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) , or Steering Wheel Removal and Installation (2019 2020 2021) 
  5. Front Door Sill Trim - Remove - Refer to: Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Door Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Pillar Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Rear Side Area, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Cargo Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Tailgate Areas .
  6. Kick Panel - Remove - Refer to: Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Door Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Pillar Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Rear Side Area, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Cargo Areas, , or Interior Trim Removal and Installation - Tailgate Areas .
  7. Center Console Side Cover - Remove (Driver's Side)
  8. Steering Joint - Disconnect

    1. Remove the steering joint cover (A).

    2. Hold the spline shaft (B) on the column with a piece of wire (C) between the joint yoke (D) of the spline shaft and the joint yoke (E) of the spline tube to prevent the lower spline shaft from pulling out.

    3. Remove the steering joint bolt (F).

    4. Disconnect the steering joint (G) from the pinion shaft (H).

    • If the center guide (I) is in place and has not moved, leave it in place.
    • If the center guide has come off, discard it.
  9. Driver's Dashboard Lower Cover - Remove
  10. Column Cover - Remove 
  11. Combination Switch/Wire Harness - Remove

    1. Disconnect the connectors (A).

    2. Remove the harness clips (B).

    3. Remove the combination switch (C) from the steering column shaft.
