AUDIO REMOTE SWITCH DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY (Audio-Navigation Unit Buttons Work) (With Navigation) (2016 2017 2018)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first - Refer to:
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
12 Volt Battery Test (With Auto Idle Stop System) or
12 Volt Battery Test (Without Auto Idle Stop System) .
- Problem verification
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Turn on the audio-navigation unit and check the audio remote switch operation.
Is the audio-navigation unit operation OK?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
- Audio remote switch check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Do the Audio Remote Switch Test. Refer to: Audio Remote Switch Test (2016 2017 2018)
Is the audio remote switch OK?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Replace the audio remote switch: Audio Remote Switch Removal and Installation (2016 2017 2018) .
- Wire check (AUDIO REM, AUDIO REM GND lines)
-1. Disconnect the following connector.
Audio-navigation unit connector A (24P) - 2. Reconnect the audio remote switch 12P connector, and measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 as specified in the table.

Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2017 2018) .Button held down VOL DOWN (-) VOL UP(+) LEFT RIGHT SOURCE No button pressed Resistance About 99 Ω About 357 Ω About 775 Ω About 1.7 kΩ About 3.7 kΩ About 10 kΩ Is the resistance OK?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
Repair an open or a short in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit, the cable reel, and the audio remote switch. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel. Refer to:
- Wire check (AUDIO INFO SW line)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 as specified in the table.

Go to step 5.
NO
Repair an open or a short in the wire between the audio-navigation unit, the cable reel, and the audio remote switch. If the wire is OK, replace the cable reel. Refer to:
- Shorted wire check (AUDIO REM line to AUDIO INFO SW line)
-1. Disconnect the following connector.
Audio remote switch 12P connector - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

YES
Repair a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit, the cable reel, and the audio remote switch. If the wires are OK, replace the cable reel. Refer to:
Cable Reel Removal and Installation .
NO
The AUDIO REM wire to AUDIO INFO SW wire are not shorted. Go to step 6.
- Shorted wire check (AUDIO REM line to AUDIO INFO SW line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit, the cable reel, and the audio remote switch. If the wires are OK, replace the cable reel. Refer to:
