DTC Advanced Diagnostics: P0102: General Description
The mass air flow (MAF) sensor is attached to the intake air passage, and it measures the amount of intake air flow. The MAF sensor is a chip type air flow meter. The air flow cools the electrically heated chip that is mounted in the air passage. The powertrain control module (PCM) determines the amount of intake airflow by measuring the frequency of the pulse. If the PCM cannot detect the frequency of the pulse (the voltage level is fixed at low), the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
