Installation Procedure

    Fig 1: Fuel Tank Rear Strap

  1. With the aid of an assistant, carefully support and position the fuel tank to the vehicle.
  2. Install the fuel tank rear strap.

  3. Install the fuel tank rear strap bolt until snug.

  4. Install the fuel tank front strap.
  5. Install the fuel tank front strap bolt until snug.
    6. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Tighten the fuel tank strap bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).

  7. Remove the adjustable jack from under the fuel tank.

  8. Install the upper fuel tank strap.
  9. Install the upper fuel tank strap bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).

  10. Position the fuel tank shield (2) to the frame.
  11. Install the fuel tank shield lower bolts (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  12. Connect the fuel feed line at the fuel tank. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar) .
  13. Lower the vehicle only enough to gain access to the fuel tank through the wheelhouse.

  14. Connect the following electrical connectors to the fuel tank:
    • The fuel tank pressure sensor (1)
    • The fuel tank module (2)

  15. Install the fuel tank shield rear upper bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  16. Install the fuel fill hose to the fuel tank. Position the fuel fill hose orientation notch (2) in line with the tab (4) on the fuel tank.
  17. Tighten the fuel fill hose clamp (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the clamp to 2.5 N.m (22 lb in).

  18. Connect the EVAP vapor line (5) to the fuel fill neck vapor line (1). Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar) .
  19. Install the left rear wheelhouse liner. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
  20. Lower the vehicle.
  21. Refill the fuel tank.
  22. Install the fuel fill cap.
  23. Inspect for leaks.
    1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 10 seconds.
    2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
    4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
