Steering Pump Pressure Test

  1. Disconnect pressure hose from oil pump. Install pressure tester between pump and pressure hose. For Excel, use Adapters (09572-33100 and 09572-21200 ). For Sonata, use Adapters (09572-32000 and 09572-32100 ). See Fig 1 . Bleed air from system. Start engine and allow to idle. Turn steering wheel several times until fluid temperature reaches 122°F (50°C). Set engine idle speed to 1000 RPM.

  2. Close and open valve to measure fluid pressure. Relief pressure should be 711 psi (50 kg/cm2 ) for Excel; 1138 psi (80 kg/cm2 ) for Sonata. If not within specifications, replace pump. Install pressure hose. Bleed system.
CAUTION: DO NOT leave valve on pressure gauge closed more than 10 seconds or damage to oil pump will result.
