Alternator Output Test

  1. Using a voltmeter, ensure battery voltage is present at terminal "B" of alternator. If battery voltage is not present, circuit from battery to alternator terminal "B" is open. Repair as required.
  2. If battery voltage is present at terminal "B", connect an ammeter inductive pick-up around alternator's terminal "B" wire. See Figure. Start engine, quickly turn lights and heater blower motor on high and run engine to 2500 RPM. Observe ammeter reading. See ALTERNATOR OUTPUT SPECIFICATIONS  table. If alternator output is not within specification, remove and bench test alternator.
